Bangladesh Adoption
This program is: open on a limited basis Bangladeshi law does not allow for traditional adoption, only permitting guardianship of a child. Once guardianship is appointed, the child can be brought to the United States to be adopted. However, only citizens of Bangladesh are granted guardianship of a child.
Therefore, the potential adoptive parents must have dual citizenship as a Bangladeshi citizen and a U.S. citizen. This greatly limits the number of adoptions each year from Bangladesh. Ten adoptions from Bangladesh were completed in the United States in 2011.
